A Promise Made

I suspect that we have all had a promise made to us only to be disappointed when the person making the commitment failed to fulfill it.  First, there is the disappointment that the agreement never came to pass and secondly, we often feel disappointment in ourselves that we put our valuable trust in someone.  It’s the double whammy.  The next emotion we feel is anger at ourselves that we didn’t see this failure coming finalizing the trifecta of emotions.  Whether in personal relationships or business dealings, it is crucial to consider carefully before we make a promise or commitment (and consider the ramifications if we don’t follow through) as well as taking a pause before we place trust with no safety net in the actions of others.  Of course, it would be painful to navigate a life only with skepticism and lack of trust, but like so many things, we should not take trust (maybe even Trust with a capital “T”) lightly.  It is hard to gain and oh so easy to lose.  It’s one of life’s precious commodities.
