Purpose

No one asks a school-age child to articulate their purpose. With the acquisition of education, a talent, or a skill suddenly the world expects each of us to have a grand purpose in life. And if we can’t figure it out, we may feel shame that we are leading a life without meaning. I choose to believe that our purpose in life is to love, to be happy, and to serve others. This can be nurtured in young children by their parents and can be encouraged by educators throughout the school years. It can be reinforced by spiritual or thought leaders and it can be modeled by leaders in the workplace. If individuals can find their joy, can find a way to love and serve their fellow humans then the purpose is achieved and we can stop talking about it!
